Stephen Fung DOT NET Tech Link Train

Well, it looks like the Tech Link Train has stopped at Stephen Fung DOT NET! This idea actually came from “The Root of All Evil” from his list of ”Evil Blog Promotion Ideas” post. The Evil One was relenting, MSN’ing every few minutes asking me to participate in this evil scheme!  That’s just evil!  Well, here’s my contribution to Evil Doing in the Blogosphere :D

***Start copy here***

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content string. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra linkback.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.

4. Add no more than 5 new TECH, SCIENCE, or CONSUMER ELECTRONICS blogs to the list in the “My Adds” section.

My Adds:

Futurelooks
Laptop Newz
Laptop Lifestyle
Laptop Gamers
TechPuddle

The Originals:

John Chow dot Com
Ted Leung on the Air
Geek is a chic.
you’ve been HACKED
IDIOT TOYS
JMH Techtronics
Web Services
UtterlyGeek
Tech It Like A Man!
Ugh!!’s Greymatter Honeypot
techboyardee
The Tech Inspector
The TechZone
Mega TechNews
Tech Buzz
Techzi
Connected Internet

***End Copying Here***

So there’s my Five!  Let’s keep the train rolling! Just a note, it’s probably better to link more smaller sites that are likely to jump on the train than bigger sites.  I did three small sites, and two bigger sites just to keep it interesting.  Enjoy!

So, do I have to wait until I’m linked to before making my own list?

If you build it…they will come? ;)

what if i build it and find out that everyone i have already linked to has done a list of their own…do i get linked to at all?

You’ll get an A for Effort, and maybe a few visits from the sites that you linked to at the least.

I think I need to take that step towards becoming a Dot Com Mogul and get a site for my given name so I can post things like this. With my personal finance site, I try to keep the posts more on topic to my overall goal.

Does it have to be all tech sites?

Comment by Stephen
2007-03-06 02:26:55

Definitely! Tech, Science, Consumer Electronics, gaming. Preferably, sites that will actually jump on the train. Remember, you want them to link you ;)

Cool idea of adding some links. I don’t have any tech related sites but I imagine this can add quite a few links for you guys.

Even more reason to get a new site going for myself! I might have to order up a new domain for myself tonight.

I don’t want to go comment hijacking but I would welcome feedback on hosts you guys use and are happy with. Ideally, hosts that allow you to run multiple domains under one account. My current host only allows for one domain per account so I am paying more per month for each site I create.

Feel free to visit my site and use my contact form to keep this from taking over the discussion here. Stephen, I apologize for making this request here so feel free to remove this comment if you like.

Certainly looks interesting….do you receive any sort of referral bonus for sending new customers? If I decide to use them I would like to reward you with any applicable referral.

I’ll have to make Gary buy me free Dot Com Pho this Saturday if you sign up ;)

The way to get it for cheap is to go 2 years on their cheappie plan and stack the “JohnChowRocks” coupon for an additional discount. You’ll get the 2 year discount, plus the coupon code discount.

The big plus is that Stephen, John, and I (among a few other people) have actually met the person behind BlueFur in person, so if any issues arise, you can know that Gary (the guy that own BlueFur) is close at hand.

Well, I am now a BlueFur customer as well. After reviewing their site specifics and doing a little due diligence, I figured they were worth a try to compare to my current host.

FWIW, the additional coupon was case sensitive as I had to enter “johnchowrocks” to get it to work. But I am in for a 2-yr plan at a great price. If you see Gary at Dot Com Pho, say hello to him from a new customer.

I’m still getting used to cpanel as that is different than what my current host provides. Also, I noticed their Fantastico for Wordpress lists 2.1.1 as the install version (I haven’t sent them an email yet to recommend they change that to 2.1.2). Although I prefer to do the manual installation anyways.

Right now I am trying to create a header image for my new site but my graphics skills are rather lacking.

Hey Nick. This is a common problem. The reason why it screws up is because of the WYSIWYG editor. What you should do, and this is the easy way, is to create an account for yourself that DOES NOT use the Visual Editor. You’ll need to uncheck the box for it when you create this new admin account. Use it only to fix screw ups and embed and publish video loaded posts.

You’ll need to insert the video directly into the area where you want the video to show in the HTML. Save or Publish. It should be right as rain.

Nick, you should be okay with the defaults but I see you are using MistyLook theme as well. I had to make some tweaks to get the formatting to work right. I’m not sure what problems you are experiencing but I can try to help out.

Also, I sent a fix to John and he posted about it on his site regarding clicking the cancel reply link.
