Electric Car The Size of a Minivan Takes Down a Porsche Turbo
A couple days ago, I posted a video of an electric car destroying two fossil fuel cars. Although it is a good demo of how far electric has come, some might say that the electric already had an unfair advantage because of its lightweight construction that allows the car to have its crazy acceleration. The company also has a fossil fuel burning version that is faster, but because of the reduced weight, could still be fairly fuel efficient. However, it only seats two, isn’t practical, and has no trunk. Well, it looks like this could be the answer!
This Eliica electric car, originally unveiled in 2003 and developed in Japan by Keio University is about the size of a Minivan and has 8 wheel drive! Ahh, the beauty of all wheel drive! As you might have already figured out, it’s quite heavy. 2400 kg heavy. Well, it ate this Porsche 911 Turbo for lunch and still seats five comfortably.
All wheel drive, and it’s a wagon that seats five. At a top speed (might be higher now) of 250 mph, it’s not the fastest car in the world by any means, but it does show off the potential of electric powered vehicles that are configured in a more practical fashion. Save mother earth, and go wicked fast too while picking up the groceries. Now we just have to see if they do a Fast and Furious featuring an electric. Think we could get Vin Diesel in one? π
The Eliica Team has been maintaining a blog since 2005 that chronicles the vehicle’s development. It is updated quite regularly. If you can read Kanji, you can check it out here.
