What Happened to Decepticon Soundwave?

If you’re a fan of the original Transformers cartoons, you know that Soundwave was one of the major characters of that series. He was Megatron’s faithful servant, and he was pretty much in every show. For some reason, Michael Bay decided that tape decks weren’t cool. How can they not be cool? At any rate, I thought the real fans would like to know what happened to our monotone friend…

The least they could have done for him was give him a new look and bring him back as a frickin’ MP3 player in the movie. Instead, they brought Frenzy back. I think Frenzy was in like two episodes of the original TV series. Even Laserbeak got more on screen time than he did along with Rumble and Ravage during the original TV series. The exception would have been in the comics where Frenzy had a more major role and was even featured in the initial attack on the Ark that brought it to earth.

I probably shouldn’t be surprised. The trend these days in Hollywood is to bring in relatively unknown actors and pay them less. However, this does bode well for our friend Leo. Being an overfeatured extra in Battlestar Galactica does put him in a good position to take on a starring role one day.

Poor Soundwave. He really did get screwed on this one. This is such “Retro Technology Discrimination”. He should definitely take this up with a lawyer and go after Michael Bay. Think he’ll make it back in the sequel?

I think it was the plan to bring back more of the well-known characters for the sequel. That’s why Starscream got away in the end. They knew that people would make the first Transformers a hit just because of the franchise name. The sequel will have to have a LOT more bang to attract movie-goers.

I liked the cheese. It brought back some of the original cartoon feel. If you go back and watch some of the original series, it was uber cheese.

Unfortunately i suspect Michael bay is an affiliate of GM, dammit all the vehicles in the movie were GM related! wth are the mazdas, nissans or Fiats? (I had to make the Italians happy)

GM basically gave the production the best offer with the largest array of vehicles and a limitless supply of them to trash. I think also having access to the concept Camaro had a big part too.
