YES! Wii Component Video Cables Arrive!

Just as I was bitching about how long it was taking to get these cables, earlier today, I go out for lunch, come back, and here they are at my doorstep. I also got my Zelda: Twilight Princess Guide so I’ll be busting out the Zelda big time. I had actually stopped playing because it looked really ugly on my HDTV running only the composite cables. Now they’re here, and I can continue my quest to save Hyrule!

I’ve been reading about how editors have seen a huge difference between the component cables and the composite cables, going from ugly to 480p. I didn’t have a lot of play time, but I can pretty much mirror what the other editors have been saying: the regular Wii menu doesn’t look much better, but Zelda is just to die for! It’s so clean and clear! Unfortunately, no one has really done a good job showing this off. Hopefully, when I have a bit more time to evaluate the picture, I’ll be able to do up a quick article on just how good the picture really is going from stock composite to component video. Stay tuned!
On another note, the Wii that I ordered from SEARS finally arrived. It looks like SEARS’ customer service incompetence has paid off for my buddy Carl in Hong Kong. They wouldn’t let me cancel my order until it arrived, so here it is, and Carl gets lucky. In Hong Kong, they want $400 US for the Wii. Who would have thought that shitty service would be a blessing?

I thought the Nintendo Wii doesn’t handle HD like the Xbox 360 and PS3 do.
I wonder why Nintendo when with a lower screen quality than the other consoles, I guess it does save the end user a bit of money right? Or is it because it is backwards compatible with the GameCube and their games were not HD either?
Tell me!
It doesn’t. It will do 480p. Thought it is rumoured that hardware can handle HD resolutions (720p, 1080i) due to the ATI chipset inside. I’ve got Mario Kart Double Dash for the system and it does look a bit better than it did on the GameCube, but because Nintendo game devs use the same tools for developing GC games as they do Wii games, maybe the HD tools aren’t ready yet?
So far, the gameplay, due to the unique Wii controllers, is superior to any game console I’ve played. They’ve done the best job in this respect, even though it lacks true HD quality graphics. It’s not bad now that the cables are here though. It’s definitely a 100% improvement over the composite cables on my HDTV.
