Out of all my techie toys and gear, the only thing I had not replaced was my trusty Samsung SyncMaster 173T Monitor. Cutting edge at the time, it was one of very few 17 inch LCD monitor that had both DVI and VGA inputs. It has lasted me all this time (I bought it in like late 2001) and now that Widescreen monitors are starting to emerge, it is time to move on up…very up!
So with Dell’s 12 Days of Deals, I decided to splurge a bit and pick up a shiny new DELL 2405FPW 24 inch Widescreen LCD Monitor. With a native resolution of 1920 x 1200, it looks like I’ll have to go nVidia SLI sooner than I anticipated. I initially wanted to buy two 20 inch panels, but if I’m going move up, I should move up in style. Hopefully, Dell serves up the HDCP compliant version in the next couple months so I can have a second monitor that works properly with Windows VISTA’s silly copy protection schemes. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the new real estate.
Well, here’s to another 5 years. My treat was courtesy of the CDN government that decided that I deserved a $2800 tax return, but decided to go back to 2002 to claim some of it back because they saw that I under reported my income by a measly 400 bucks. Crooks!
