Using Transit in Hong Kong? Remember this Song!

My trip to Asia is coming up and I can’t wait to go! First COMPUTEX in Taipei and then Hong Kong! When I was in Hong Kong last year, I learned how to use the mass transit system known as the MTR. It took me a good day and a half of fumbling with a map and running around in circles around one station to figure it out, but I did manage to get the hang of it before I left.

The Hong Kong MTR is probably one of the best kept subways that I’ve ever ridden. It’s clean, it’s not really that crowded most of the time from what I experienced, and it gets you to where you need to go pretty fast. It puts the local Skytrain in Vancouver to shame. Everything is pretty much automated and it doesn’t reek of urine or homeless guy that snuck onboard.

I came across this video a little while ago that takes you through the MTR system in around 2 minutes. It’s set to some Disney Song that I can’t remember the name of at the moment. I wish I had heard and memorized this song before I went last year.

Although this seems to work just right for the Hong Kong MTR, I can imagine that it would start to become pretty annoying if you had to repeat that enough times for the number of stops on some of the larger subway systems. I just hope that I don’t start humming it while I’m on the train 😛
