Futurelooks Goes All In at CES 2007

The Futurelooks Team had an excellent time at CES in Las Vegas. The team really showed that Futurelooks was a team to be reckoned with. Here are a few highlights…

Party Time!

Alex (right), our PC Hardware Editor returned as a veteran of the show while new Electronic Gaming Editor, Peter (left) brought some new energy to the team covering off some of the hottest gaming products at the show. They were both at the Futurelooks Co-Hosted “Night Before CES Party” at the MGM Grand Skyloft. This is the first time that Futurelooks has hosted this event, and it definitely won’t be our last time.

A Race for Charity

Charity PC Race
Futurelooks made its mark again at the Tiger Direct Charity PC Race. Futurelooks’ Editor In Chief (yours truly) produced a solid 4th place with a time of 7 minutes and 47 seconds. I have to admit that I was really expecting race veterans and co-hosts of the “Night Before CES Party”, John Chow and Bob Busskirk to beat me since this is my first time doing the event. Instead, in my rookie year, I ended up beating both of them. Hoorah!

It was so cool to see my name in the top within a field of some very respected journalists and editors. Looking around the field of 29 other competitors, I was almost certain that I was going to be killed. When the smoke cleared, I was only 1 minute behind the winner and less than 30 seconds slower than third place. I’ll definitely be coming back to try to win it next year so I can give $10,000 to my favourite charity.

In the end everyone won because we were all able to donate the PC’s that we built to a school that needed it. That felt good.

Going All In…

Futurelooks was also invited to participate in the Sony Online Entertainment Texas Hold’em Tournament. Although I didn’t make it into the final, I did take John to the cleaners. What’s more remarkable is that I don’t really know how to play. Poor guy. I was actually beaten for a spot in the final by Peter, but it made me proud to know that two of my guys would be in the semi-finals.

SOE Poker! FL Represent!
Futurelooks had one man standing in the final round. Peter took third place after coming from behind. Peter competed against and beat competitors that had been playing prior to our late arrival. I’m confident that when we return next year, Peter will win. It was great to see a man from the team up there.

So as you can see, Futurelooks made some big splashes at this years CES in Las Vegas. Check out the coverage of the show on the site. Peter and Alex go home tomorrow, but I’ll be continuing to post our coverage from Las Vegas till I get home on Friday.
