Your TV will go black, and You Won’t Be Able to Stop It…

As some of you might have heard, George W. put his “John Hancock” on a law to ban over the air analog programming, effective Feb 17th, 2009. Why is this important? Well, that means that every Hill Billy watching TV over the air with an antenna will no longer be able to watch TV. That means that in places like North Carolina, or Arkansas (where there are lots of Hill Billy’s), there will be a revolution when “March Madness” will no longer be viewable 2 weeks later, as TV’s fade to black.
I have to give the US some credit here. They at least have the nuts to do something about it, set a date, and get it done. Canada, on the other hand, is loafing around. In fact, Canada expects to be fully changed over, maybe, 2015…or so??!! Well, I guess that isn’t surprising…
Considering that 10% of the people in Canada are Hill Billies, and know nothing about HDTV, and about 10% of the people in Canada work for the government…well…draw your own conclusions. Most disturbing is the fact that 2.1 million people in Canada own an HDTV, yet only 17.1% of them, subscribe to some form of HDTV programming.
While the US implements innovative plans to get the country ready like offering an $80 credit towards an ATSC tuner box to allow analog TV users to get their programming back, Canada trails over 6 years behind with their best estimate. That was extended from a 6 month timetable trailing the US.
When it comes to digital TV and HDTV, Oi Canada!
