Wobbed of my Wii!

So this morning, I wake up at crazy o’clock (about 4:30 Am..ish) and start bundling up to head down to my local Best Buy to pick up my Wii. That’s right. I planned on waltzing right in and grabbing it because i figured after last nights reconnaisance mission, seeing as only 7 people were camped at 7PM, I was good to go. No such luck. The store had 54 units. I was like 30 people away from getting one. I got there at about 6:00 AM, thinking that two hours would enough, well not at this store.

After being given bad news, I gun it to the Walmart. Turns out they had over a hundred units. If I had lined up there for 2 hrs, I would have had my Wii. Most people showed up about 6′ish, and were good to go. I had no idea that the Walmart opened at 8 AM. What killed me was the fact the Walmart is right down the street. Ai ya!

So instead of grousing, I get in line like everyone else, and eventually, I get to peck at the remaining accessories. I picked up a Wii Points Card, extra Wii-Mote, and The Legend of Zelda (good price at $49.99) and call it a day. They actually had the best prices on accessories by a few dollars. They were out of nunchuk controllers though.

Everything but the Wii...

But before I REALLY called it a day, I booted out to the other Walmart on the other side of town, check two EB’s, and run to the Zellers, Superstore, and Sears. Some kid outside the Walmart tried to make a buck off me by offering the system to me at HIS price. I told him with 4 million units, do you think I should even entertain that? I offered him 20 bucks. I don’t think he’ll even get that now that everyone knows that most stores will get an order in before Friday, albeit a much smaller quantity. I even sent Kelly to Costco. No luck. In fact, Costco Canada didn’t put them at all the stores. However, I always have a plan B…

Before I left the house, I placed on order for it at SEARS and considered it Insurance. As I found out by going there later, SEARS actually doesn’t sell gaming stuff at their stores. They only sell it online. Unfortunately, no one knows this…but I did. I placed an order early this morning before I went out. When I got home, I got an email notification saying that my order was in stock, and it would ship to my local SEARS for pick up in 2 - 3 days. Order is confirmed. SWEET! I also know that because there is a major shipping depot near my house, I’d by getting it probably even sooner than that.

So that’s my Wii Story. If all goes well, I’ll be playing by Tuesday. Do you guys have Wii Stories of your own?

Smart thinking with the SEARS ordering there. It’s still not arriving in the UK for a few more weeks (8th Dec), so there are no stories from over here yet. No chance I will be camping out for 3 weeks :)

So it looks like we both underestimated the demand for Wii’s…but at least you got Zelda. That was pretty much my biggest reason to get a Wii other than how you can play classic Nintendo stuff.

Tell us more once you played with it a bit! I’m on the fence whether or not to buy one. At $279, it’s hard to pass up but…I don’t really play all that many games and this thing won’t play Blu-Ray movies.

Hey I want a Nintendo Wii too as well as Zelda. I’ve purchased every Nintendo console since the NES, this includes the Gameboys etc too.

I even had the Robot (forget its name though) with my old NES.

Stephen give up the Wii and let me use it!

My cold dead hands man! However, they do get tingly when you don’t move your arms for a while when playing!

I ordered day of launch, and before people woke up. I was up way too early that day :P
Anyway, I’ll have to agree now that I got put through the ringer with SEARS as well. They’re customer service REALLY SUCKS:

Sears screwed us over too with the same song and dance. Not happy at all, daughter has “Sears must die” written on her binder for school. Her Christmas is pretty much toast without a wii. Won’t be buying any christmas gifts from sears this year.

The only thing keeping them afloat:

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

Like the show. Hate their sponsor.

I ordered my Wii on the morning of the release from Sears, received email that delivery date was Nov 29, Nov 28 i received another email that my item was on backorder with no estimated date for arrival, so i figured i wasn’t gonna get one, i was ready to cancel my order, then today i received an email that my Wii was in, so anyway, i picked it up and now i have my Wii. So i guess some people who ordered from Sears will get lucky and receive their system.

Hey Tasha, Glad you got your Wii! I got the one that was backordered from Sears finally, but instead of just sending it back, I have a friend in Hong Kong that will be very excited to get his Wii. They sell them for $400 US at retail in HK for some reason. He should be pleased. I guess it’s ironic that Sears stupidity actually ended up in doing some good.

You’ll need extra controllers. It’s not fun with only one controller ;)
