Upgrade Time: From Dish Rinser to Dish Washer…

I spent most of today installing a brand new Kenmore Dishwashing machine. I know! That’s so boring! Well, I agree, it’s not the most state of the art cool toy out there, but compared to what I was using before, it was like the Jetsons vs the Flinstones.
This one should save me a lot of money on water and electricity because the old one always needed two cycles. Even after that, there would be food stuck to all the stuff on the top rack. It’s also a heckuva lot roomier. I was going to go stainless steel, but then I remembered that nothing in my kitchen was stainless, and then I’d want to change everything else, so I stuck with white. The old machine was truly just a “Dish Rinser”…
The whole operation took me about 4 hrs. First, they don’t give you all he pieces in the box, and second, it’s not as easy as attaching a couple of hoses and plugging in the power. Since I didn’t want to direct wire it, I had to buy a plug kit and manually assemble it to work with the machine. Then I had to cut the copper pipe downstairs and install a new dishwasher waterline, and rework the drainage line. After all that, I find out that the new machine is shorter, so I had to shim the machine up to match the height of the enclosure, and then anchor the top to the cabinetry so it doesn’t fall forward. I also had to run around town picking up all the parts. But it’s done, and man, is it ever quiet when it runs! It also cleans all the dishes on the very first cycle. Cool…
