To Be Rich is MORE than Just “Glorious”…

I was reading an article today in the Globe and Mail, and it was about how China’s rich elite are receiving preferential treatment far in excess of just the best seats at the latest high end restaurants, or the presidential suite at the big hotels.
The government has actually allowed this preferential treatment to go as far as allowing the children of ultra rich parents to receive extra exam points on their tests, while the rest of the students have to work harder to catch up. They have also given the ultra rich preferential treatment in hospitals. They don’t have to wait, and get dibs on the best doctors. Even more disturbing is the fact that ultra rich business people can even influence the and rate the performance of local officials in some provinces. In fact, they even have a say in whether they are dismissed or if they get to keep their jobs. In the city of Zhangzhou, the rich elite pay no tolls. They just drive through city toll booths.
This all comes at the tune of a minimum of 3 milliian yan, or about $418,000 CDN dollars a year in corporate taxes paid to the government. The article goes on to say that if we allowed something like this to happen in North America, Bill Gates would be driving everywhere with a police escort to smooth the way ahead. Heck, his kids would probably get honorary doctorates in the process.
