Things I Will Miss…

So today at the day job, I was on FIRE! I sold pretty much everything I put my hands on. It was like I could do no wrong. I’m glad I had a great day today, because we really needed a morale boost. We’ve been cutting back on shifts, which is something I never look forward to doing.

I’ll really miss the rush of doing huge sales like these, and working with people face to face. Most importantly, I’ll miss my team. I’ve worked with some of them since I joined the company, and I’ll miss joking around and helping them out with their sales. The other people I’ll miss are the reps from the companies that we sell products for. I started saying goodbye to most of them this week, and I hear the same thing from all of them: “I’m sad to see you go, but I’m happy for you that you’re going out on your own”. It’s almost a cliche! :D

There are some great people out there, and it is pretty cool that I’ll still be in the industry, sort of, so I can keep in contact with them from time to time. I’ve started letting friends in the company know that I’m leaving, and I think many are shocked, particularly since the company has such a loyal employee base. I was particularly touched by a comment by a former boss that he knew that I was never meant to be at this job. He could see me doing much better. I had to pause for a sec when he said that to clear something out of my eye…

This time of year for retail is quite slow. No matter what your bosses say, you can’t just pull people that don’t want to shop into the store. Even online sales are slow as confirmed by a conversation with one of Futurelooks’ sponsors’, Geeks. You could call it the calm before the storm because in the next few weeks, people will start getting their tax returns back and start spending again. It will be interesting to see if traffic and revenue on Futurelooks will increase with retail sales increases.

I finished booking for the E3 Expo in LA yesterday evening. John and I hit every site looking for deals on flights, hotels, and a rental car. We wrapped everything up, and will be in LA from the 9th till the 13th. The show goes 12th to the 10th, but there is a press party on the 9th and we need an extra day to recover from the festivities and hang out in LA for a bit. It should prove to be an interesting show, particularly because they have banned scantily clad booth babes. I wonder what they will do this year. Well, Futurelooks will be there to cover it, I can tell you that!

Okay, enough for tonight. Back to editing stuff!
