The Wii Weather Channel is a GO

I awoke this morning to the faint blue glow of my Wii letting me know that a new message had arrived. The message informed me that the new Wii Weather Channel had gone live and that to activate it was only a click away. The note also thanked all us Wii fans for our support. Cool. The Wii Weather Update took about 2 minutes.

After a couple of basic setup questions, I was greeted with a view of the temperature and the current weather for my area. I found that the system wasn’t pinpoint accurate enough though. I couldn’t actually find my city in initial setup. I could only find the nearest city which was Vancouver. I live in Port Moody, and the weather can actually be quite different from Vancouver.

The picture above is what I call the Weather Man screen. It allows you to zoom in and pan the map to see it at a different angle. You can click on any of the cities to find out more details about current weather conditions. Though the look of the interface is pretty slick, it really needs more cities to be useful to me. If your city is listed, then you’re good to go.

What’s stupid is that you can only set your home city to the region of the console.. So even though they do have Hong Kong’s weather on there, I have to scroll over to it on the globe every time I want to check it out.
IMO a pretty useless feature anyway… It’s quicker just to go to a website or something.
Opera is releasing their browser to the Nintendo Wii on Decemver 22, 2006.
The weather thing to me is kinda neat, I have no Wii so I can’t actually look at it but I think it would be kinda neat for a the first little bit.
I’m sure I’d stop using it and deem it useless too
