Street Fighter II and the Wii Brought Us Closer

Over the holidays, Nintendo launched a few more titles for the Wii which included R-Type for TurboGrafx 16, good ole Super Mario for the NES, Super Castlevania IV for the SNES and finally Street Fighter II for the SNES.

While I was browsing these new additions Kelly came over and saw Street Fighter II. She was very excited about it so I downloaded it of course. I guess she played it a lot when she was a kid. We spent the next hour or so beating the crap out of each other…in the game. Depending on who you talk to, the story of who laid the smack down changes. Though we had played Wii Sports and a few rounds of Super Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube on the Wii together already, both of us grew up with Street Fighter II and we shared a very special moment of laying the smack to one another.

As long as I’ve known Kelly, I’ve never played video games with her, except maybe at the arcade when we were younger. Even though the Wii isn’t “HD Gaming” it certainly makes up for it by bringing people together through the growing selection of old school games and unique game play from the new school games. Though we both enjoyed Wii Sports, the excitement didn’t get turned up until we were sumo headbutting or dragon punching each other. I think we’ll be spending a lot of time on Street Fighter and Super Mario while we wait for some of the cooler Wii titles to show up in the New Year. But if they keep bringing out cool old school titles, I can wait ;)
