Do you wanna be on top? Well it looks like Nick Witkoski wants to be!

Nick Witkoski is giving Vancouverite Michael Kwan a run for his money. For most of the Top Comment Whore Contest, Michael has been on top, starting out as the early favourite from day one. However, it looks like Nick has been riding in Michael’s draft all along waiting for his moment to surge. With a twenty four comment lead, can anyone catch Nick?
It almost seems that the top two spots are locked up, with everyone else fighting for the final three spots in our Top Comment Whore General Classification. However, with 19 days left in the contest, can Nick hang on? Or will someone rise from the ranks for the biggest upset ever? Don’t be a spectator! That someone could be you! Join in on the most exciting contest in the blogosphere!
Do you have what it takes to be Stephen Fung’s Next Top Comment Whore?

I think I need Nick’s internet connection to go down for a few days to try and make up some ground. It seems he counters every comment with at least one of his own to keep that lead.
well, i was gone for friday and saturday, i was afraid someone would take the lead from me, but luckily, michael only gained abut 5 posts on me. And yes, i respond to every comment that I can.
Just post random things from blog entries a few weeks back!
ive used that tactic too, when it comes to bike stuff, i love to read what stephen has to write, since he is more of a mountian burly DH man right now and i am more of the shaved legs roadie, its fun to read what the other guys have to say about riding.
Big Mountain DH Burly Man?
i saw that big session of yours, that thing is meant to go up on a ski lift and fly down the mountain. thats what people do isnt it?
Well, Whistler is a little far away to go to everyday, so this big Session needs to go UP before it can go DOWN. I prefer riding my Specialized P.3 on the local trails, though it isn’t much lighter. The thing is super burly.
I think quality is much better than quantity. I mean I could go back and comment on every response and every post you’ve ever written but the key with contests like these is to get quality, conversation starting topics. Sure some OT is ok but when it seems like that is all you read it gets old fast.
Yeah, I am with Kris on that. While it would be possible to spend some time and go through posts and add a bunch of comments, I would prefer to try and add quality comments when possible.
That doesn’t mean adding comments to older posts wouldn’t be quality but I don’t want to do that just to win the contest. Now you might be thinking none of my comments are quality but that is another story.
For the most part, I’ve felt that most of the comments have been good and on topic. I have no clue how Nick is doing it. It’s pretty crazy how quickly he’s racked up the post count. He must not sleep!
But be warned, in the even of a tie, you’re only as good as your crappiest comments
Stephen, I have to agree that this plugin does seem to boost the comments. I’ve had more comments in the last two days since installing the plugin than I had in the previous few weeks.
Now I think I need to install the subscribe to comments plugin, which one do you use? I believe you mentioned it once so I need to go find that.
Right here…

Highly recommended. One of my top five. I think I should list my top five plugins that I can’t do without
Thanks for the link, I’ve now got it installed on my blog. For the time being I am leaving the checkbox unchecked by default. Have you experimented with that? I just don’t want to put people off by forcing it on them as a default.
I have it set to default here. I just did that becuase I know that I personally don’t come back to a blog unless I’m reminded that a response has been made to a post I commented on.
I had it off for the first litle while, but when I turned it on, it seemed to really increase comments because people were finally aware that others were responding. You can turn it off at anytime, so you’re not stuck getting SPAM.
I guess you could leave it off. Make a few posts during the week. Then turn it on the following week, make a few more posts. See what happens.
That is exactly what I plan on doing. I will give it a little while with it unchecked and see how things go and then will give it a try with it checked by default.
It is a great plugin as it is too easy to comment on different blogs and lose track of sites, thus missing out on follow-up comments.
I tend to unsubscribe from the comments. I remember checking my email to find 10 new comments, deleted them, checked again like 30mins later and there were 12 new ones hehe.
Though if I post something that I’ve asked a question on, then I would probably keep myself subscribed.
yea, thats happened to me too, i came to check my email one day and it said, 32 new messages and i remember thinking, damn, who is spamming my email now… and then i opened the folder and it all said “STEPHEN FUNG DOT NET WORK PLAY….” so i just deleted all of them.
I actually changed my settings so it is checked by default. I get so few comments on my penguins blog as it is (due largely to my lack of marketing) that I want people to return as often as possible.
Kris, you’ve got some interesting sites. I can’t get into the Pens since they knocked my Hawks out of the Stanley Cup the last time the Hawks actually made it that far. I used to be a huge WWF fan so I am finding your WWE site interesting, although I have lost touch with the wrestling.
Thanks for the compliments, I really enjoy writing them and they are really what got me started in building the sites I am now. Now I just have to make sure I can keep up with 8-10 sites on my own.
It’s all about the link in the comment whores box. How bad could it be to have a link back to my site from Stephens or any other blog?
it does?
I think Michael will win. The weekend is coming.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. What’s interesting is that Nick has not reared his head in here yet.
Maybe his internet did indeed go down or he decided to give the rest of us a chance. The messages for new comments have been fewer in the last day I think largely becuase Nick hasn’t been commenting as much.
He’s taunting the rest of us….waiting until Michael and you get close and then he will unleash a flurry of comments.
taunting…maybe if it gets closer to march, this game is still open to anyone, and dont think i dont see you creeping up on me…
He must be. I am just surprised he hasn’t made at least one comment. Perhapes he’s out of town or just to wrapped up, who knows.
indeed i was too wrapped up to comment. I am taking a saturday class now, so i spent 5 hours in a classroom yesterday and after that i was just exhausted and decided to sleep the rest of the day. Then i watched saw 3 and felt like i was going to hell just for watching that movie. Im about to go on a 3 hour bike ride, but i will be back
my name sure looks good in that picture, i hope i keep this up
A little conceited, aren’t we? (I kid, I enjoy seeing my name in print… or on the web… too)
I’m ok with my name being in the Comment Whores box with my link.
I think Michael lives to comment . . . but what a lead Nick has in this race.
I live to comment as well, and hopefully that lead will last. 1/2 way there.
Ok.. gota get my post whore count back up because my site is back up!
Woo me!
Tyler, glad to see your site back up.
It’s about time you get that blog back up!
Better get whoring there. You might be able to crack the top 5 if you post till morning
