Props to AKA Bike Shop

AKA The Bike Shop had a great event yesterday. The same one that my Manitou Travis broke at, but that’s another story. The Santa Cruz Bicycles tour was out and they had shuttle service up to Burnaby Mountain for some all out downhill action on some of their zesty new bikes. Although I didn’t take a new Santa Cruz out (left ID in car, and I was still trying to break in…now broken…my fork) I still had a great time on my own bike. We don’t get a lot of shuttling service up to the top. We usually have to earn our downhill runs, so it was cool to take off the backpack, and just pin it down the trails.

It was really fun to ride with a group like that. A lot of the riders were younger and REALLY fast. It was cool that this old dog could still hang tough with them. I think the most fun I had was chasing one of the youngsters down the hill while he was piloting a SantaCruz V10: A 10 inch travel bike. I watched him guide that bike down the hill, and it was like a rocket. It was like he picked every direct line down the hill, and not necessarily the smoothest. It didn’t matter. That bike just railed and rolled over everything!

I felt like a young punk again hucking off everything. I don’t think I’ve ever pinned it that fast coming down that mountain. It was like a drug: I just wanted to keep going! It was amazing how much pedalling you actually do when you’re just hitting the limit in every corner, so I was just beat after. Thanks AKA for putting on a great event!
