I saw a lot of contractors and business vehicles. You would think they would have done it earlier.

I observed no fist fights at the tire store I was at ;)

I agree, if you travel the coquihalla a few times or if you drive to whistler alot or whatever it makes sense to have winters. The thing is, the majority of lower mainlanders don't do either of those things. They drive out of their suburban development, then spend the rest of their drive time on either the lougheed or the number 1 or other major roads (that are snow and ice free by now, btw). The line ups at the local tire store are not caused by valid users, they're caused by people who DONT need them for winter sports or traversing the rockies on a regular basis. These are the same people who had fist fights for bottled water on day one of the advisory...the panic people.

I dunno, maybe it's cuz I come from snowy land, but it just seems kind of wasteful to me to go spend 800 bux on snow tires for 3 days of snowy roads. We all know it will be gone in a matter of hours, and now you've got tires that are actually unsafe on wet or dry roads, and really only useful on snow. Which doesn't stick in vancouver. What gives with the lineups???

Personally, I just don't drive for a couple days...I understand some people need to, and that's fine. But is it worth it? On thursday when the roads are all clear again there will be lineups again as people go to get their all seasons put on again.
