Opportunity Knocks at PayPerPost

I was invited to participate in the Charity PC Race hosted by TigerDirect in Las Vegas last week. The event takes place during the Consumer Electronics Show in January. I was really excited because not only would I be able to receive a chance to compete to win $10,000 to donate to my favourite charity, but I would also be building this PC to give it away to a favourite charity as well. I was stoked!

I selected the BC Children’s Hospital as the recipient for my PC. Unfortunately, as it would turn out, the event can only give to charities with a US Tax Number. That was a real bummer. I really wanted to do it for the kids at the hospital. I’ve always hated hospitals and I’m sure that the kids that are staying there over the holidays hate it even more. I was hoping the gift of this PC would cheer up at least a few of them, but unfortunately, Tax Laws forbid it! Hopefully they can make an exception. If not, there are many great children’s hospitals in the US as well. I’m going to make sure my PC gets to one of them after the race.

While perusing PayPerPost, I spotted an opportunity to make a difference. It was perfect timing! PayPerPost was advertising any opportunity to win a digital camera and photo printer. This post and the opportunity is sponsored by HP, one of the leaders in personal digital photography. Someone named Ted from PayPerPost will be selecting five winners from all the posts that select this opportunity. Hopefully Ted and HP can see how much joy a gift like this could really bring and really brighten up the day for a group of sick kids. Make it happen Ted! HP, give him a nudge.

This post also had a $15.00 spiff attached to it, sponsored by HP and PayPerPost. I decided to donate it to Habitat for Humanity. I wonder if blogging for schwag for charity will catch on? Let’s find out!
