DUDE! We’ve got a DELL!

Well, Futurelooks’ new server has finally arrived! We are now proud owners of a shiny new Dell 1850 Dual XEON server. Above is a picture of it with the tamper proof faceplate on. It even has a lock so that someone can’t just go and pull it off and switch our server off, which has actually happened in the past. The door of the rack is just a metal mesh so a good pencil poke can cause havoc. Not anymore!

Here is the server without the faceplate on. It looks pretty ugly without it and is vulnerable to having people push and poke at it. This server houses two Intel Dual XEON processors running at 3.0 GHz. This server revision actually has the ability to use two Dual Core XEON’s as well in case we need more processing power in the future. The server has two 73 Gigabyte FUJITSU SCSI Hard Drives running at 10,000 RPM, and are run in RAID 1 so that if one drive dies, it will just be business as usual.
The machine is currently running 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, but we’ll probably upgrade a little later once the machine is burned in and functioning properly. It also boasts a dual redundant power supply so that if one of them fries, the other one just motors along.
Once this server is tweaked to perfection, it will house Futurelooks only. Since Futurelooks is the bread winner in the family, it will get what it needs to run as fast and as reliably as it can. The rest of the sites including this blog will remain on the old INTEL server. It should be fully operational in the next couple weeks.
