Happy Fathers Day from Hong Kong!

Seeing as how I wasn’t home for Fathers Day, I decided to buy something cool for the old man to make up for not being there…

Happy Fathers Day!

My dad has been wearing a broke ass TIMEX for the last 10 years. The thing is pretty beat up. Ever since he got me a watch from his last trip to Hong Kong, he’s been kicking himself for not buying one too. Watches are a good deal here and if you know how to shop, you can get an even better deal.

Happy Fathers Day from Hong Kong!

I went to several watch places across Hong Kong looking for a Titanium Watch with big numbers and a calendar. My dad is only going to get older and his eyesight is only going to get worse so I wanted something easy to read and lightweight. I also wanted it durable hence the Titanium. He likes working in the yard so he’ll be wearing it pretty much for everything like he does his Timex.

The common price for this SEIKO was around $1180 HKD. I found a place that sold a less cool version for $1080 HKD. I went from place to place bartering and asking for a cash deal. Eventually, I ended up in Causeway Bay and found a place that sold the exact watch I was looking for, was willing to bargain, and gave it to me for $800 cash. I had to make sure it was real seeing that there was such a huge price difference, but sure enough, it looked like all the others. They even shortened the strap for me. What a deal!

Happy Fathers Day! :D

Nice gift Stephen, I’m sure your dad will love it. If he doesn’t I’ll haggle you for it ;)

If your such a self-proclaimed dot com mogul, why are you bartering for a watch? Put your money where you mouth is….Real dot com moguls never have to worry about price with anything they buy.

Your just a wanna-be rich boy like your other stupid blog buddies who talk about cars they will never be able to afford. You’re also a P-O-S-E-R and a F-A-K-E. BTW, you can moderate this post if you want because I already made my point.

Based on what you’re saying, I assume that you think that people that are well off can spend their money as stupidly as the iPod Lady?

In that case, I feel pity for you because that makes you look pretty ignorant in addition to sounding VERY STUPID. The most wealthy people in the world are there because they are also the best negotiators in the world. While everyone else is getting a shitty deal, they are getting the best possible deal…on everything…yes, even a watch.

Spending money stupidly is just stupid. Is this really what you think rich people do?

If you’re so inclined, you can go bother my friend John Chow about him bartering for the price of his new car. How ironic is that?

I would recommend that you get to know a few “Rich People” in your neighbourhood. Ask them to take you shopping with them. You’ll learn a lot…including how to barter effectively and how NOT to pay full price for anything. You’ll run into two types of rich people though. Those that work every purchase and those that spend money stupidly. Observe the difference.

That’s your chance to exit this conversation without sounding any stupider. Go.
