Dot Com in Okanagan Country

 Dot Com in Okanagan Country

My recent road trip took me to the interior of British Columbia also known as the Okanagan.  In addition to beautiful country scenery, this area is known for lots of great wineries, fresh fruit and hiking.

Kelowna is home to Mission Hills, one of BC’s largest wineries.  Though a little commercial for my tastes, it definitely has the best view and arguably one of the most impressive buildings to ever house a winery. They are also one of the few wineries to actually “Charge” for their wine tastings, but will refund it if you buy a bottle.  To me, that’s like saying your wine isn’t good enough to sell itself. So instead, I did my business at many other smaller independent wineries that put out kick ass wines.  The wine cabinet that I managed to fill up at my Retirement Party is now full again Dot Com in Okanagan Country

The Skaha area in Penticton is home to some great hiking trails as well as some of the areas best rock climbing. I fear heights, but Kelly got a chance to practice her climbing.

I had a great time hanging out and just enjoying nature, though I did take out my WiFi Finder to see if I could grab a signal.  No such luck there.  However, I did manage to keep myself occupied exploring the terrain and avoiding the mosquitoes that would eat me alive that day.  I even put up a “Dot Com Inukshuk”. Dot Com Represent!

In an industry where burn out is common, it’s good to be able to “get the hell out of Dodge” and unplug. My trip to the Okanagan was a pretty spur of the moment thing and I plan to do a whole lot more of these random adventures.  Turning my Dot Com existence into random open ended vacation might be one of the best things that I can do for myself.

I think he traded it because the truck at least had a V8 ;)

No, just some old wine barrels. V8 doesn’t do so well in the Sun. Tends to ferment. :P
