Dot Com Pho After Hours – Double Feature Presentation

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last update. You see, I’ve been trapped in this world called the “Twitterverse”. If you’re following me, you’ll probably see that I’ve been quite active over there. In fact, most of the time, I’ve already worked off my ranting and opinions which used to be exclusively the domain of my blog. I’m pretty sure it’s just a phase so once I get bored of it, I’ll probably come back to my rock which is my blog here. I’m actually mostly busy with Futurelooks though as we’ve been having quite a bunch of new reviews and articles go up in the last while.

At any rate, I haven’t stopped with heading out to Dot Com Pho and this week, while John Chow has been imprisoned by Chinese Authorities, I’ve brought the Dot Com Crew to my own backyard of Coquitlam, BC. It was actually here last week, but not enough footage was shot, so I’ve combined last week and this week’s meet ups together into a Dot Com Pho After Hours – Double Feature Presentation! That’s right! You’re getting two for the price of one!

It’s really nice to get out of a routine and explore new places. Even though people don’t call their meet ups “Dot Com Pho” it doesn’t mean that other peeps don’t have meet ups too. It was really cool to meet new people, catch up with old friends, and see what others are up to besides your favourites from the usual Dot Com Pho pool of favourites.

Next week, I’ll be heading out to Cloverdale to check in with Gary Jones and Rainer Schmoll to see what’s happening in their backyard. As you’ve seen in the video, they’ve been doing their fitness challenge so we’ll get to meet other participants in their ThinkFitness Challenge. We’ll also have the return of Michael Kwan with a quick gadget segment. Till next week!

iPhone – Why Do You Have to be a Douche?

Sorry about the lack of updates, but I’ve been busy with Futurelooks and all the work that CES 2009 has caused. I’m not complaining. It’s definitely a good thing to be busy, especially when a lot of people are worried about their jobs.

Some of you might know from my Twitter Updates that I had been looking for a new phone and ended up picking up a Blackberry BOLD just after the New Year. Though the iPhone 3G is a fine gadget/toy, I know that I’d probably just become one of those guys showing off stupid apps that serve no purpose (or need to upgrade because Apple finally decided to catch up and include stereo bluetooth and video in the new model). In fact, Ed Lau struggled with this same question of how useless most iPhone apps seem to be. It definitely doesn’t help that every week at Dot Com Pho, stupider and stupider apps keep showing up.

I have to say that I do become more and more happy with my Blackberry as each day goes by. The real QWERTY keyboard is great and I’m not messing with trying to Jailbreak it (after every software update bricks it) to give it features that a cutting edge smartphone should have in the first place like “cut and paste”. Instead of mucking with useless apps, I’m getting stuff done, usually before I even get out of bed in the morning. It just does what it’s supposed to do without complaint.

Of course I’ve been surfing the Interwebs for even more things I can do with the Blackberry BOLD and have come across some pretty cool sites like CrackBerry.com. While perusing the site, I came across this video that absolutely cracked me up. I’m sorry iPhone Gary, but this is just too funny…

For the record, iPhone Gary is NOT a douche like the gadget he worships. In fact, he’s a very cool guy and friend. However, he is one of those guys that shows us a whole lot of useless iPhone apps all the time. I would love to see him come up with some useful apps to show off at upcoming Dot Com Pho’s, like an “iPhone Is Useful Dot See Eh” segment. Just leave the useless apps for John Chow to go with his Fart Apps, Beer Apps and the even more useless Twitter Shout Outs.

Stephen’s Silly Talents – Tying a Cherry Stem in a Knot

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2009) in Las Vegas is a big show. Every year I do it, I need at least a few days to recuperate. That means that during whatever downtime we have, we need to rest and have as much fun as possible. One night while Danny Chang, Greg Morgan, Michael Kwan and I we were out having dinner and lounging in one of the swank restaurants inside the Wynn Encore, I decided to show everyone one of my hidden talents…

Ok back to work…
