Another Wordpress Update Gets Us to Version 2.2

Wordpress releases a new version of our favourite blogging software bring us from 2.1.3 to 2.2!
Stuff they fixed and improved includes:
- WordPress Widgets allow you to easily rearrange and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with drag-and-drop simplicity. This functionality was originally available as a plugin Widgets are now included by default in the core code, significantly cleaned up, and enabled for the default themes.
- Full Atom support, including updating our Atom feeds to use the 1.0 standard spec and including an implementation of the Atom Publishing API to complement our XML-RPC interface.
- A new Blogger importer that is able to handle the latest version of Google’s Blogger product and seamlessly import posts and comments without any user interaction beyond entering your login.
- Infinite comment stream, meaning that on your Edit Comments page when you delete or spam a comment using the AJAX links under each comment it will bring in another comment in the background so you always have 20 items on the page. (I know it sounds geeky, but try it!)
- We now protect you from activating a plugin or editing a file that will break your blog.
- Core plugin and filter speed optimizations should make everything feel a bit more snappy and lighter on your server.
- We’ve added a hook for WYSIWYG support in a future version of Safari.
If you’re anal about security and love living on the edge, then you can go download it here. However, I know of at least one person that has had problems with the upgrade, so I think I’m going to sit back and see what happens.

I would also suggest checking out Rod’s post: http://www.rodtempleton.net/2007/05/16/wordpress-22-upgrade-documentation-suggestion/
It seems that WordPress didn’t really have good upgrading instructions but Rod fills in the blanks pretty good.
I love how I don’t have to worry about updates, but I am missing a critical feature or two that WP has and I don’t
Is that because you wrote your own blogging platform?
Yeah, the documentation sucked, but the issue that John was having was a little more frustrating. Had the same issue myself, and found a solution on the WordPress forums.
Turned out to not be a problem with Wordpress, but with one of the plugins. Change one line of code and things are all better.
Posted about it here:

Thanks for that tip Rod. I think I’m going to hang tight and upgrade the plugins before updating to this version of Wordpress. It’s not a critical update, but it would be nice to experience the optimizations they’ve done to the software. Does it feel any different to you?
That’s why I don’t write code anymore!
I think I will also sit on the sidelines for now, I don’t want anything to break. Plus I am very lazy and if it ain’t broke…
hey stephen just discovered your blog….although i’ve frequented futurelooks..didnt know bout the blog…anyways…just wanted to say hi!
Thanks for stopping by
Yeah, I plan on sitting back a little while with this latest update myself. Typically I update right away but right now I am not in any hurry. But I’ll be making a note of Rod’s post with the more detailed instruction.
Were there any security problems in 2.1.3 that need to be addressed? I am getting a bit tired of all the constant updates as well. I am hoping to get a few more months out of this version.
Oh god, I’ve barely tackled the existing version. God only knows what I’ll break updating to another version.
Guess I needs to learn me some PHP.
