Are You Spamming Me?

SPAM is just part of being on the Interwebz these days. Everywhere we go, some site wants to sell us something, from pharmaceuticals to credit reports. Of course, we also get SPAM in email, often times from a deposed prince who needs help getting his money out of the country. Sounds innocent enough right? And that’s why people try to help the brother out and end up being pwned.

Although we have the option of leaving our computers at home while we enjoy time out with friends or family, have you ever wondered what things would be like if SPAM followed you into real life? This video portrays a rather disturbing possibility…

Though computers aren’t to the point where they can program a human brain, people are susceptible to the power of suggestion. Marketing and advertising play a huge role in this, but the prospect of making money online too has caused some people to, although not to this extent, sound rather SPAMMY in their conversations.

Has anyone ever SPAMMED you in person? Have you done it to someone and not even realized you did it?

Dot Com Pho After Hours Heads to Cloverdale

Sometimes we end up in the middle of nowhere by accident and sometimes on purpose. Whether it’s because you had a flat tire, or run out of gas, we always end up there sooner or later. Yesterday, we ended up there (as in nowhere) for another thrilling Dot Com Pho After Hours adventure!

This week, nowhere had a name and it was Cloverdale, which is sometimes the backdrop to popular TV shows like Smallville and Supernatural. I guess if they screw up and blow up the town by accident, it’s not such a big deal. It’s also close to where our Pho Phriends Gary Jones and Rainer Schmoll live. Since they often come out to Pho in Vancouver, enduring the long drive, it was only honorable that we come out and do an episode there at least once…and we could never do this with John Chow around as it would violate his five minute rule. Five minutes as in how long it would take him to drive from his house.

I thought I was alone till Ed Lau showed up…late as usual. But I have to give him props for showing. I did page Leo Chiang, but he said he was…umm…working. I think that was his code for “Fracking a Six” as he is, after all, our friendly neighborhood “Raptor Wrangler” on Battlestar Galactica. I’m sure being on the last episode got him some “play”. This week is also the episode where Michael Kwan returns in another thrilling “Kwan’s Korner” segment. Enjoy!

I think this is all the adventure I can take for a while. This weekend, we’re coming back to Vancouver and I feel like hitting a greasy diner. Any suggestions?

Dot Com Pho After Hours – Double Feature Presentation

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last update. You see, I’ve been trapped in this world called the “Twitterverse”. If you’re following me, you’ll probably see that I’ve been quite active over there. In fact, most of the time, I’ve already worked off my ranting and opinions which used to be exclusively the domain of my blog. I’m pretty sure it’s just a phase so once I get bored of it, I’ll probably come back to my rock which is my blog here. I’m actually mostly busy with Futurelooks though as we’ve been having quite a bunch of new reviews and articles go up in the last while.

At any rate, I haven’t stopped with heading out to Dot Com Pho and this week, while John Chow has been imprisoned by Chinese Authorities, I’ve brought the Dot Com Crew to my own backyard of Coquitlam, BC. It was actually here last week, but not enough footage was shot, so I’ve combined last week and this week’s meet ups together into a Dot Com Pho After Hours – Double Feature Presentation! That’s right! You’re getting two for the price of one!

It’s really nice to get out of a routine and explore new places. Even though people don’t call their meet ups “Dot Com Pho” it doesn’t mean that other peeps don’t have meet ups too. It was really cool to meet new people, catch up with old friends, and see what others are up to besides your favourites from the usual Dot Com Pho pool of favourites.

Next week, I’ll be heading out to Cloverdale to check in with Gary Jones and Rainer Schmoll to see what’s happening in their backyard. As you’ve seen in the video, they’ve been doing their fitness challenge so we’ll get to meet other participants in their ThinkFitness Challenge. We’ll also have the return of Michael Kwan with a quick gadget segment. Till next week!
